It Is Important to Eat Only the Right Foods Following Any Type of Oral SurgeryIf you are about to have oral surgery, or someone in your family is, it is really important that you figure out ahead of time what you and your loved ones can eat, and what they can't eat.

While we caution you to be careful with your food choices while you are taking care of your teeth, it is really important to take care of your teeth, gums and oral structures after you have oral surgery.

If oral surgery is in your future, keep reading. We have some suggestions on the importance of oral health after your surgery is done.

Nutrition to Promote Healing

The point in using nutrition to promote healing is a very important part of your oral recovery. In fact, maintaining a nutritious diet is one way to maintain a diet that helps you feel better, increases your healing potential, and minimizes discomfort from surgery.

Some Rules to Help You Out
First, be sure that whether you are eating a completely liquid diet or a soft food diet once you're done with surgery, you need to make sure you are eating a balanced plate. For example, you need dietary protein to aid in your healing. If you are drinking a smoothie, for example, add some protein or whey powder. You could also add yogurt.

While getting fruits and vegetables into your diet will help your mouth tissues heal, it is also important that you are careful about acidic fruits and vegetables. For example, you may want to avoid oranges, lemons, limes, tomatoes, onions, and grapefruit, because all of these fruits and vegetables have acids that could cause burning in your mouth.

You may also want to limit your food intake to a little at a time, so that your mouth has time to adjust. Don't move rapidly from very hot food to very cold food. Give your mouth a chance to adjust.
